Description

I threw myself into the making of this sculpture, forcing myself to open up and embrace the long period of uncertainty during the creative process. Aware of my lack of direction and feeling lost, I observed the unfolding developments and allowed them to guide me.

When the rough conical shapes reminded me of flowers past their prime, like crinkled labia, I made more! Originally meant as a wall hanging sculpture, it evolved into this statement vase, with labia flowers draping naturally around the central phallus.

The labia flowers are loosely inspired by the yellow freesias that unexpectedly bloomed again this year in my roof terrace garden, having forgotten I had planted out the tiny bulbs. Now glazed, they also evoke the blue morning glory flowers.
