I made this short video to illustrate my video mixing skills – using all new loops! Read my Artists Statement to find out how I work.

VJ Miss Plunkett

I make video art that I mix live on screen – my themes include nature, industry, graphics, moving water, fire and anything automated. I record friends in action as the centrepieces to my compositions – a swimmer in a wild body of water, her mirrored splashes looking like angel wings. I created a glamorous widow’s costume and got the performer to walk endlessly down grand staircases, then gave her a gentle, delayed ghost in negative.

I shoot everything that moves, always making sure I have enough battery charge and memory space. I make 2–10 second clips that I save in a filing system with categories such as Abstracts, Animals, Architecture, Art and so on. I load the clips into Modul8 VJ software where I can apply real-time effects like kaleidoscope and luma key, and change the speed of the clips.

I play a premixed backing track and then use my Roland vision mixer to crossfade over to the live visuals. I layer and arrange seamless loops together, building an ever changing visual harmony on screen – the videos tell their own story. I choose clips that reflect the mood – insects, bubbles, sparks, vehicles, flashing lights, underwater life, cogs – and I slowly rotate beautiful flowers that I’ve cut out from their backgrounds. It’s so much fun mixing videos to the pulse of the music.
