Description
Slugs, glorious slugs!
I’ve been making more slugs, they’re substantial, so they stand out when placed on a wall. They’re stoneware, so they can happily go outside. They can be hung from a hook climbing upwards or glued straight to the wall.
All creatures, great and small, have their place in the world – even slugs, which make excellent bird food. But in my container garden, their numbers often test my patience. As with any emotional challenge, frustration has a way of slipping into my artwork. How do we learn to love what we dislike?
While sculpting golden slugs, I’ve uncovered some fascinating facts: they have tiny teeth, a breathing pore on their right side and fun fact – they can’t swim! My mum said, “they’re territorial and will return if you simply sling them next door” and my cousin said, “They can consume up to 40 times their own weight in 24 hours”.
Now the question is, where should my ceramic slug go? Nestled amongst your treasures or climbing the wall?
What I like about these slugs is that you can point them towards things and they seem to take interest in them!
