The sphere, tetrahedron, flowers, lips, frills, tiny goddess figures, fingers, and glaze combinations have become the thread weaving this body of surreal sculptures together. Though some have already found new homes, I wanted to bring them all together (both for you and for myself) to see the evolution of this series in one place. I don’t know how long this theme will hold my curiosity before I’m drawn to the next exploration but as long as they keep emerging, I’ll keep adding them here.

Meanings

Each piece carries its own significance, blending human elements with nature and geometry to form a surrealist harmony.

Geometric shapes

The Spheres

In medieval Christian religious art, wooden carvings of the Madonna and Child often depicted the Madonna extending her right hand, holding a sphere—a symbol of divine perfection and the cosmic order that governs the universe.

The Tetrahedrons

A tetrahedron is, at its core, a pyramid—a stable foundation pointing toward the heavens. In sacred geometry, it represents mental clarity and balance, embodying both a sharp, alert mind and an easy temperament. It is also seen as the masculine counterpart to the feminine sphere.

The Cubes

Square, stable, balanced – an unchanging permanent and grounding presence in the physical world.

Nature

The Flowers

Flowers have long held spiritual significance, woven into religious rituals and life’s most meaningful moments –weddings, funerals and celebrations. They embody beauty, love, purity, growth, and transformation, reminding us of life’s fleeting nature and the importance of deeper pursuits. Each flower, each colour, carries its own essence and symbolism, adding yet another layer of meaning to these sculptures. I often grow the flowers that appear in my work.

The human body

Index fingers

The index finger is the symbol of guidance, direction and command, often used when making a statement – these fingrs are made from a cast of my hands.

Lips

Mouths are sensual, evolved for kissing, communicating and tasting amongst other things. They are a receptive as well as expressive. The lips allow us to share our thoughts and feeling, so choose your words carefully because they can have a significant impact.

Little figures

Like ancient goddesses, these little figures bring intrigue and new narrative to these sculptures. Often found resting peacefully in flowers, like they have all the time in the world – the tiny goddess can even be repositioned, adding a dynamic element to her story.
