Description

This stoneware sculpture is decorated with rose gold coloured lava glaze – the shape is equal parts flame and reef. It’s a bit of a departure for me, though the lattice structure has already been gently making itself known in my other forms. I like the way the tunnels and crevices suggest a habitat for marine life – though this would be an expensive addition to an aquarium.

It’s decorated with a lava glaze, which expands and bubbles in the kiln. I achieved the rose gold colour by adding a minuscule amount of chrome to the recipe (0.1g per 100g of glaze).

It’s the kind of sculpture I could imagine on a white plinth, a coffee table, or even in an empty fireplace, where it would bring out its flame-like qualities – the sort of piece that reveals new things the longer you stare into it.
