Description
This stoneware sculpture of a hand reaches out through a cuff of wild nature — chilli, strawberry, rose, and scattered leaves. Is she catching the world, cradling it with care, or about to throw it like a ball?
An unplanned sculpture born from my imagination, this piece began with the assembly of contrasting shapes — a cast hand holding a perfect sphere. When it came time for glazing, the sphere transformed into a planet, and a story began to unfold.
Having the whole world in your hand is often interpreted as a symbol of success, making this sculpture feel like a trophy. But this is not Gods hand — it belongs to a woman, a goddess, her nails painted a bold, glossy red.
The content of the sculpture echoes the words of the African American gospel song, “He’s got the whole world in his hands” but beyond that, what does this sculpture mean to you?
