Coffee lovers! Don’t you just adore the smell of freshly brewed arabica coffee beans?

I knew I wanted to paint a cup of coffee and I liked the shape of this coffeecup. However, I didn’t know it was going to turn into such a colour explosion.

I find it a pure joy to mix up such extravagant colours and lay them down, so that each daub compliments and yet also stands apart from its neighbours. I use high quality paints (made with pure pigments), so the colours stay really sumptuous.

I’ve found that by adhering to the tonal values (shades of light and dark), I can create the form regardless of the colour.
